Five clocks, tracked separately.
- Property damage SOL
2 years in Texas; 3 years in California and New York; 5 years in Illinois
The default clock for auto physical damage and property subrogation.
- Bodily injury SOL
1 year in Tennessee; 2 years in Texas and California
Controls med-pay, PIP where permitted, and workers' comp third-party actions.
- Product liability and repose
Limitation runs from injury; repose can bar claims years after first sale regardless of discovery
Appliance and component defect recoveries can die on repose before the SOL.
- Written contract
Often longer than tort periods
Lease and construction indemnity claims may survive after the tort clock runs.
- Government notice of claim
90 days under N.Y. Gen. Mun. Law 50-e; 6 months under Cal. Gov. Code 911.2
Runs far ahead of the SOL and is the most common silent killer of municipal recoveries.

Frequently asked questions
Usually the date of loss. Where a state applies a discovery rule, or the claim is for product defect, the engine records both the loss date and the discovery date and calendars the earlier controlling deadline, flagging the file for counsel review.
When the file shows a public vehicle, road defect, utility work or public property, the engine attaches the notice-of-claim deadline for that state and entity type. Those deadlines are often 90 days to 6 months, so they jump to the top of the queue.
Alerts go to the assigned subrogation handler at 180, 90, 45 and 15 days, escalate to the unit manager inside 15 days, and appear as Activities in your claims system if it is connected.
From the Ishqkala 50-state rules library, which is reviewed by subrogation counsel and versioned. When a legislature changes a period, affected open opportunities are recalculated and the change is logged.
